First Post of 2019!
Well here it is… The beginning of another year. 2018 is now
history, and 2019 is upon us. And thus, comes my first blog post of the year.
I have never been one for making a lot of New Year’s
resolutions that probably will not be kept longer than the end of the month, at
most. But there are a few things I want to try to do this year.
First and foremost, I want to get back into doing more
photography. I’ve been playing around with Adobe Lightroom, and in going
through a lot of my old photos I’ve found my passion for photography returning.
My plan is to get out at least once a month, and just shoot some photos. It’s a
little more difficult to do in the winter (I am no big fan of cold weather),
but there are a few days here and there where the weather isn’t horrible.
I want to build up a good repertoire of stock photographs
that I can submit to Adobe Stock, and maybe make a little bit of money with.
Right now I only have about 30 photos there, and I’m competing with
people that have thousands, or hundreds of thousands of photos. However… A few
weeks ago – with only 13 photos in my portfolio – one of them was actually
used. And I got… Wait for it… A whole $.99! Woo hoo! The funny thing was, the
photo that somebody bought was the one that I thought least likely for anyone
to be interested in. It was simply a photograph of an insulator on my pole in
the backyard! LOL but hey, it’s sold! So I’ve put another photograph of an
insulator on Adobe Stock, and will probably shoot a few more just for giggles.
In addition to the photography, I want to get into the shop
a little bit more often and start creating some things that I can possibly sell
on Etsey. I have seen a couple people selling insulator-based lamps there, and
some of them are going for $200 to $300. I certainly wouldn’t mind getting a
little bit of that action myself.
This spring, I’m going to be doing quite a bit of work on
the house – the biggest project, of course, is going to be getting the house
ready to paint, then doing the painting. I really want to get this place
looking good. This neighborhood is beginning that slow but inevitable spiral
downhill as more and more – shall we say - unsavory people are moving in. I’d
like to be able to sell this place for enough to get into something a little
better, and in a nicer area.
And of course in addition to all this, I’ll be doing more of
my artwork, and working on my Girls From T.N.A. story. I’ve been kind of expanding
my horizons in the computer graphics/3-D worlds and have participated in a
couple of webinars with some pretty decent feedback on my artwork. I look to
keep improving, and hopefully maybe at some point making a little money with my
skills.
So there in a nutshell, is a quick overview of my plans for
2019. Hopefully we’ll take a vacation sometime in the spring, and see a few
different sights – oh yes, and photograph them too!
Hope everyone (all two or three people and actually read
this thing) have a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2019!
Rod over and out…
