Workin' Out Back..

Thursday was a gorgeous day, so we decided to get some work done in the back yard. I decided it was time to tackle some of that unkempt jungle just behind my yard. I have a few photos of my progress. Enjoy.

This is an overall view of my backyard. We're looking north in this view. That jungle is right up to my fence, and pushing through it, and hanging branches above it.

This shot is looking into the north-west corner into the jungle. It belongs to the city, actually, but in 20 years I can't remember any trimming or maintenance being done back there. A couple days ago we lost power, and the IP&L tech couldn't even get to the pole. So they did send out some trimmers for that. But it was probably 100 feet west of this point. This shot was before I got started, as were the following two.

Another view just beyond my fence line...

..And another..

I even put some blood into this....

And the cutting begins. I'll stack all the cuttings in the yard.

 The pile is growing....

After a couple hour's worth of chainsaw application, it's looking a whole lot better. Compare this with the first few photos. This is looking east along the old fence-line.

And this is looking west. I think this might improve my property values just a bit. I'll take what I can get in that regard!

This part still needs a bit of chainsaw treatment. There's still plenty of work awaiting around here. I'm also thinking seriously about having that rusty old fence replaced. The rusty part on the right was a gate - not sure I really need a gate back there.

This jungle runs from 39th Street to Sterling Ave. to the west. It's essentially just a drainage ditch. At one point there were homeless dudes camping back there, but the Police told them they couldn't camp back there - and I was rather relieved about that.

I'll be doing more work back there Saturday, so stay tuned for more..
