Another Peaceful Day (NOT)

We were awakened this morning around 7:00 - 7:15 or so (Yeah we sleep late - I'm retired. Deal with it. lol), by one of the local asshats blasting his / her loud, obnoxious boom-car crap. It was loud enough it actually caused the window in the back of the bedroom to vibrate. And it's not an unusual situation.

There are several....... Individuals in the area that just love that aural diarrhea, and feel the need to share it with everyone in a 5-block radius. So what to do? Well, let's see.....

Here are a few interesting pages from the City of Independence, Missouri' s Code Of Ordinances, specifically Article 10 - Sound Control Regulations. Let's see what it says...

Hmm.... It's found and declared... Creation or maintenance of excessive, unnecessary, unusual, unnatural, yadda, yadda, yadda, are a detriment to public health, comfort, safety, and so on..

No shit, Sherlock.

Let's have a look at page 2...

Definition of a sound disturbance. Hmm.... "..Annoys, distracts, disturbs, or otherwise offends a reasonable person of normal sensitivities..." Well, I THINK I'm pretty normal. My medical professionals seem to agree, so let's move on, shall we?

Let's have a quick gander at Sec 7.10.003...

Sound Disturbances PROHIBITED. Sounds pretty clear and simple to me. Prohibited. Period. "No person shall make...."

It says NOTHING about between any particular hours of the day / night. It says NOTHING about "Hey if you call the police about a disturbance 3 houses away, you have to sign a complaint, so the offender will know who you are so he can have one of his gang-banger buddies come by and put bullets through your front window at night."

PROHIBITED. PERIOD. So ENFORCE the damn thing! Do your jobs and don't give me a ration of crap for expecting you to do so.

Let's skip ahead to page 8...

Wow. A $500.00 fine and / or 6 months in the slammer. For EACH DAY the violation is committed. Dang. There are a few folks in this area that would be in a cage until sometime in 2056, or need a winning Powerball to pay off the fines. That's assuming, of course, that the City of Independence actually DID something besides sit on their butts and do nothing.

Hopefully, this will not be an issue for us within the foreseeable future. One thing I can tell you with 1000% confidence. The next place we live will NOT be in Independence, Missouri.

Rod out...
