My Pipes Are Plugged...
08-08-22
Ah. What a day.
Well, our plumbing contractor came out today to check things out with our drainage / sewer problems. He tried to get his 1” camera down the pipe where the washing machine lives. He got it down a few feet – and I watched the screen as it went down – and it couldn’t go any further due to the corrosion. He tried another location and ran into the same problem. The corrosion is so bad that you wouldn’t be able to shove a pencil through the hole where the water is supposed to go. He said the pipes under the floor were probably all in the same shape.
It's cast-iron pipe, and typically lasts about 40 years. This house was built in the ‘50s. That puts its age somewhere around 67 years. The technician was afraid the existing pipe might be going directly under the concrete pad the furnace stands on – which would add a whole new buttload of problems. So….
The other option is to carve a channel in the concrete floor, and just replace the old pipes with a new system of PVC line. They start Wednesday afternoon. The photos below show the approximate path in white paint..
Path from behind the washer…
Past the furnace and past the shelves – which have been removed.
Path goes
under the CD shelf which is actually on the computer room side. Shelves on the right side were removed.
From under the CD shelf, into the bathroom.
And finally, a new T-joint from the toilet into the main stack.
They will also be installing a new length of pipe from the back wall of the house to join the sewer line that was replaced in 2019.
And…….. The cost for all this?
$13,700.
The pit in my stomach continues to get deeper and deeper.
I’ll have another blog post At some point soon concerning even more fun – but at least it’s not going to drain my bank account. It’s just another annoyance, and another reason to get out of this ‘effing’ place as soon as possible.
Hopefully, we’ll get that money back when we sell this place. It is a good time to sell, but we need a place to sleep first. I’m not into the camping under bridges thing..
Now, I'm going to go to bed and cry.... (not really...😪)
