It. Never. Ends.
The sink in
the bathroom has been kind of a pain in the butt for some time. It has always
drained slowly, but a dose of liquid Drano usually clears things up. But not
this time…
Soooo…..
Time to fund
a couple more of AB May’s kids’ college educations…
They came
out Wednesday to snake the drain, but quickly found that was going to be
ineffective. The rooter would only go a few feet before running into some kind
of blockage. The technician tried and tried, but despite his best efforts, no
progress. Some kind of defect in the piping was stopping things up. He thought
it might be the way it was originally plumbed. Figures.
He didn’t
charge for the service and arranged to have a crew come out and do some repairs
to the drainage system. They came out today and looked things over. The drain
from the bathroom sink just disappeared into the wall and turned right. There
was really no way to figure it out without doing some serious tearing out of
walls.
The other
option was to just cap off the old drainage pipes, and put in a new system –
which would be both less disruptive and less expensive (it was expensive
enough..).
So, they just
drilled a hole up through the basement ceiling into the inside of the vanity in
the bathroom, cut out a piece of the 4-inch main sewer line, put in a
y-connection, and ran the drain to that.
I went ahead
and had them replace the corroded and non-functional pop-up drain in the sink
and put in a new Moen faucet. Total damage – just over $1300.00.
I keep
hoping this unending S##T-storm will abate, but it just seems to be one thing
after another. This house is becoming a real money-pit. Or more like a money
black hole. I’m sure getting tired of this… I just hope all this crap comes to
an end soon. This year has S-U-C-K-E-D!!!!
